Mariella Baier

Official site of soprano Mariella Baier

German born soprano Mariella Baier discovered her passion for singing while studying music education at university. She subsequently was accepted at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels from where she graduated with high distinction. She had the opportunity to refine her craft with famous teachers such as Grace Bumbry and coaches like Carrie-Ann Matheson or Jonathan Kelly from the Metropolitan Opera New York or Klaus Sallmann from Staatsoper Berlin.

She made her debut as Micaela in Carmen at the Festival de Santa Florentina in Spain and as Sour Angelica at the Narnia Festival in Italy. Her debut as Sieglinde brought her to New York City where she performed both with New York Lyric Opera at Lincoln Center and the Opera Company of Brooklyn.

At the Festival of the Aegean in Greece she covered the role of Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly.

Her repertoire includes also roles like Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera), Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Mimi (La Boheme), Manon Lescaut or Elsa (Lohengrin).

Also classical art songs are part of her repertoire and she therefore worked with reknown Lied specialists like Udo Reinemann, Helmut Deutsch, Maciej Pikulski or Mitsuko Shirai. Together with pianist Kelvin Grout she plans a concert series with Wagner’s Wesendonkliedern and Strauss‘ Four last Songs.
